659371-0-0-3Days Inn Eureka Six Flags in Eureka, Mo., has been named the second-dirtiest hotel in the U.S. by TripAdvisor.

The Top 10 Dirtiest Hotels in America list for 2010 is based on traveler ratings for cleanliness.

“If hell had a hotel it would be something like this,” one visitor wrote. “The worst, nastiest hotel I have ever stayed in, in my life. Dirty towels, dirty room. Rude manager. Run from this place as fast as you can!”

Days Inn hotels are part of the Parsippany, N.J.-based Wyndham Hotel Group. Christine Da Silva, Wyndham’s director of media relations, said the company inspects each of its hotels at least once a year.

“When a hotel fails to meet those standards, we notify the owner that specific actions must be taken within a specific amount of time to address its deficiencies,” she said. “Hotels that make a good-faith effort to resolve their problems may be given time extensions to comply for extenuating circumstances. We are re-evaluating the properties mentioned in the TripAdvisor list to assess the situation at those hotels.”

A request for comment from Days Inn Eureka Six Flags was not immediately returned.

Heritage Marina Hotel in San Francisco was named the dirtiest hotel in the nation after guests complained of bed bugs, TripAdvisor said.

“TripAdvisor’s dirtiest hotels list reveals that unfortunately, some hotels take the notion of offering dirt cheap rooms far too literally,” said Christine Petersen, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor, in a statement. “Our candid traveler reviews prepare future guests for grimy lodgings that might otherwise be an unwelcome surprise.”
