Thriving from a low income family and community in St. Louis County, young entrepreneur, Ezekeil Obasi, 28, has quite the success story. After attending the Wellston School District from kindergarten to senior high, he went on to attend Harris Stowe State University where he received a Bachelor of Science Information Science. After completing his undergrad, he enrolled into Webster University where he earned his Master’s Degree in Information Technology Management. Obasi is now earning his Doctorate of Business Administration. In addition to his education, he also has over 10 years of experience. Obasi has worked in the information technology departments at Monsanto, Harris Stowe, St. John’s Mercy, and other small businesses. One can whole heartedly say that Obasi has an edge and is dedicated to the field of information technology.

Obasi’s never-ending interest and love for the field inspired him to establish, Computers R Us.  “I wanted to provide an outlet so that we can be our customer’s personal IT provider.  We want to provide customers with a personal experience that is more cost effective, “explains Obasi.  Collectively, Obasi’s staff has over 30 years of experience; they are also all A+ and Network + certified and can service most operating system.

Computers R Us’ services range from computer technical support and sales to surveillance camera. They have also expanded beyond the individual customer base. They are now doing business to business work as well. Computers R Us’ services range from technical support to surveillance camera installation.

How did some so young become so successful? Obasi’s advice to future business owners is to “…surround yourself with people with similar minds-even if we’re not in the same industry. Write a good business plan. Don’t depend on the bank to give you a loan. Try to find other resources and save your money. Don’t get caught in the tangible things because you want people to see a physical difference. Get a financial advisor or an advisor period. Find someone who can help you make strategic decisions. Most importantly, give it your all even if you want to quit.”

Obasi also recommends getting involved in the community. Since 2008, he has partnered with Craig Blac’s Community Cuts for Kids to donate three custom built computers to randomly selected student each school year. He also donates to Patches Clothing at the Ball Park each year, the Collegiate 100 Toy Drive which is affiliated with 100 Black Men of Harris Stowe State University, and the Mind of Christ Church in Washington Park annual Christmas Toy Drive.

Not only is Obasi involved in the community, he has also joined a couple organizations he says has helped develop who he is today. He pledged at the Alpha Eta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and is affiliated with 100 Black Men of Metropolitan; he serves on the Advisory Board of the Collegiate 100 at Harris Stowe State University and is a member of the Prince Hall Free & Accepted Masons. Obasi says that, “Education alone has not propelled my career. My affiliations have given me an edge to get me where I am now.”
