Hip-Hop 911 Stop the Violence Concert:

St. Louis Hip-Hop’s Call to Action

By Seven L. Maxwell

People from all over the metropolitan area can agree: The quality of life in the City of St. Louis is slowly declining. Those who are still fortunate to have maintained employment can’t even go out and complain about the workday woes over a good drink at their favorite bar because it’s been shut down due to the violence that took place there the night before. Club owners who invest everything they have on the opportunity to light up the nightlife are losing their livelihood because of an idiot who can’t hold their alcohol or handle embarrassment and want to shoot up the place.

In the wake of the constant violence in the city, several local entities have united with some amazing musical talents to wake up the city in the Hip-Hop 911 Stop the Violence Concert that will be held at the Pageant on January 29, 2011. This community-oriented event put on by STLhiphop.com, The Loop Underground, Dynasty Hip-Hop Inc. Mentoring program, and 100  Black Men of Greater St. Louis has gained the support of local and national celebrities including: Grammy Award-winning recording artist, Murphy Lee who will be performing his inspirational single “Age of 21” with the youth from Dynasty Hip Hop; RockHouse Entertainment’s rising stars, Aloha Mi’sho and Bradd Young.  Other artists who fit the bill include: The Apostlez, 12 to 6 Movement, Jia Davis, Country Brown, Tef Poe, Nite Owl, Ruka Puff, and The Midwest Advengers. The lineup will also include guest speakers who  represent various aspects of the community, a preview of The Hunger, a documentary which sheds light on the culture of violence, and a tribute to Lee “The Roseman” Nixon, a staple in the community whose death rocked the city.

The Show – Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 8pm. Admission is free for 21+ with a ticket, $5

without a ticket or if under the age of 21. The Pageant is located at 6161 Delmar at Skinker.
