Just when you thought the allegations against Russell Simmons were going to go away, they aren’t. To date, there have been nine women to speak out against the Def Jam mogul. Yesterday, he was hit with a 5-million-dollar lawsuit by Jennifer Jarosik, who claims Simmons raped her in 2016. Jarosik joins eight other women including, Jenny Lumet and Keri Claussen who spoke out first in the allegations.
Due to the allegations piling up, Simmons stepped down from his businesses in November. He has repeatedly denied all claims made against him, and now ex-wife, Kimora Lee Simmons has finally decided to speak out about the allegations.
Late Thursday night, Kimora Lee took to her Instagram page to address the countless amount of rape allegations mounting against her ex-husband. This is the first time, she has said anything regarding the claims.
As a mother of two daughters, Kimora’s heart goes out to the victims and her statement made was in no way meant to condemn or victim shame those who were brave enough to speak out.
Kimora wrote, “I add my voice to the chorus of those speaking out against harassment and violence in all it’s forms. At the same time, though, I have known Russell for over 25 years. We were close friends, married, divorced, and have remained friends, co-parents, and partners throughout it all.” She continued by saying, “These allegations against him are nothing like the person I have known in all that time. I have known him to be a caring and supportive father and someone who has worked tirelessly to uplift disenfranchised communities.”
She added in her post that this was a pivotal moment in our society in which men are being held accountable for abusing their power. Kimora expresses her desire to remain unbiased during the process. She feels no victim should be shamed for speaking out; however, no one should be immediately condemned without due process and a fair trial.
Though we agree with her stance on fairness, accountability, and the stopping of victim shaming, it doesn’t look good for Simmons right now. One can only hope for the sake of his two daughters, he did not do what he is being accused of.
