This has been a year of new beginnings for Mary J. Blige. The Yonkers singer recently received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (Jan 11) and has received a Golden Globe nod for her performance in Mudbound. As of this morning, she can add Academy-Award nominee to that list as well.

The nominations for the 2018 Academy Awards were announced early Tuesday morning and we are glad to see the Queen of Hip Hop has made the list.

Comedienne and Girls Trip star, Tiffany Haddish along with Andy Serkis and John Bailey (Academy President) announced the nominees at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

The singer will go head-to-head with Octavia Spencer for her performance in The Shape of Water. Two-time winner, Denzel Washington received nomination for Best Actor in Roman J. Israel, Esq. Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya also received a Best Actor nomination for his role in the blockbuster hit directed by Jordan Peele.

Jimmy Kimmel will return as the show’s host for the second year in a row. The awards are scheduled to air Sunday, March 4th.
